A dryer that takes two cycles to dry a load is telling you something. So is a laundry room that gets hot, or a wall cap that never opens. Lint packs the run from the inside out, and by the time you can see it at the trap the duct behind the wall is already furred over. We pull the machine, clean the full run to the exterior cap, check that the flap actually opens, and show you what came out. Why this is the job people put off
Nothing about a clogged dryer vent looks urgent. The machine still runs. It just runs longer, hotter and harder, and every extra cycle pushes more lint into a duct that already cannot pass air. The failure point is almost never at the trap. It is in the elbow behind the wall, at the transition where a crushed flexible duct kinks, or at a cap that has not opened in years. Those are the three places we go first.

A unit owner can clean the eight feet they can reach and change nothing, because the blockage is two floors up in a shared stack. How often, and what changes the answer
Once a year is the usual answer for a family sized laundry load. Heavy use, pets, a long duct run, a run with several elbows or a rooftop termination all shorten that. New construction with a forty foot run to the outside wall needs it more often than a bungalow with a six foot straight shot. We tell you which one you have.
